1. A Dress Code serves many purposes inside a dance school. Uniforms help to:

  • Identify non-students in the studio
  • Diminish economic and social barriers between students
  • Increase a sense of belonging and school pride
  • Encourage discipline
  • Help students resist the pressure to buy stylish clothes for class
  • Protect modesty of the dancers
  • Make it easier for the teacher to address body placement and alignment issues
  • Encourage hygiene – By keeping everything in place and helping to keep one’s sweat to oneself!
  • Prevent injuries – By keeping the hair out of the face, we can see. By keeping the gum out of the mouth, we don’t choke. And by wearing tights, we keep our muscles warm!

2. All Classes: In addition to the class-specific dress code outlined below, we ask the following of all dancers:

  • Do not wear dangling jewelry or chew gum in class
  • No denim
  • Keep covered- no midriffs please
  • Wear deodorant and appropriate undergarments for dance
Girls: do not wear underwear with tights, do wear a sports bra as needed
Boys: wear athletic compression shorts or a dance belt

*All dress code information can be found on our website [elevatedanceonline.com/dress-code/]

Pre-Primary Classes (Ages 6 and under)

  • Tap/Ballet:
    • Girls: Black leotard, tights (ballet pink, black or nude), pink leather ballet slippers, black patent leather Mary Jane style beginner tap shoe, hair pulled back into a bun/french braid tucked under/french twist.
    • Boys: Black sweatpants or shorts, white t-shirt, black ballet shoes, black lace-up beginner tap shoe.
  • Tap/Hippety Hop
    • Girls: Black leotard, tights (ballet pink, black or nude), black patent leather Mary Jane style beginner tap shoe, clean tennis shoes dedicated to hip hop (Velcro is best for fast shoe changes!), hair pulled back into a bun/french braid tucked under/french twist.
    • Boys: Black sweatpants or shorts, white t-shirt, clean tennis shoes dedicated to hip hop (Velcro is best for fast shoe changes!), black lace-up beginner tap shoe.
  • Pre-Primary Progressive 5/6
    • Girls: Black leotard, tights (ballet pink, black or nude), pink leather ballet slippers, black patent leather Mary Jane style beginner tap shoe, black leather slip-on jazz shoe, hair pulled back into a bun/french braid tucked under/french twist.
    • Boys: Black sweatpants or shorts, white t-shirt, black ballet shoes, black lace-up beginner tap shoe, black leather slip-on jazz shoe.

All Other Courses (Ages 7 and up)

  • Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Dance Conditioning, Lyrical, Contemporary, Stretch & Strength, Turns & Leaps, Musical Theatre:
    • Girls: BLACK leotard, convertible tights (ballet pink, black or nude), appropriate dance shoes (see below), HAIR pulled back into a bun for ballet classes. A pony tail, french braid tucked under/french twist is acceptable for all other styles of dance.
    • Boys: BLACK sweatpants or shorts, plain white t-shirt, appropriate dance shoes for the class.
  • Hip Hop, Breakdance
    • Girls: BASE uniform of BLACK leotard and tights (ballet pink, black or nude) to keep muscles warm and protect dancers’ modesty during tricks such as head stands, etc. Pants (over tights) are required for Hip Hop and Breakdance to protect legs during slides and a BEANIE in the dance bag will make headspins easier in these classes too.
    • Boys participating in Hip Hop or Breakdance wear a t-shirt and sweatpants (not too baggy). A beanie is recommended, but not required to make practicing headspins easier.

SHOES

Ballet: pink leather ballet flats for girls, black leather ballet flats for boys

Pointe: pointe shoes as purchased through the EDC shoe fitting

Jazz and Musical Theatre: Black slip-on jazz shoes

Dance Conditioning, Contempoary and Stretch and Strength: Bare Feet

Lyrical: Nude Lyrical Turners

Tap: Black lace-up oxford style tap shoes

Hip Hop and Breakdance: Black high-top sneakers with white soles.

*All dancers must wear appropriate dance shoes in each class AND secure hair up and out of the face. Hip Hop and Breakdance students must have DEDICATED clean or brand-new BLACK HIGH-TOP sneakers with WHITE soles. See examples [https://docs.google.com/document/d/16VYCaR2nkxnpfVb-YUdaoyifVHC48Ze8NeA-zhOosO4/edit]. “Dedicated” dance shoes means they are only worn inside the studio. Enter the building in your street shoes and CHANGE SHOES, just like you would for ballet, tap or jazz. Nobody wants to roll around on the floor in the gum, doggy doo or other gross stuff you tracked in. Ew.

*Please consult with us before purchasing dance shoes, as not all shoes are created equal and cheaper is rarely better. Additionally, all students are required to wear the same style and color shoe when it comes time to perform so it is best to ask before buying! Dancers may buy dance shoes wherever they’re sold, but we encourage you to get personally fitted and purchase  directly through us [https://docs.google.com/document/d/15Kh1JqKLOp-NJA6v71CFdIaQSSXGROl5l-mNcArfSFY/edit?usp=sharing] if time allows (typically two weeks). For a physical location, we like The Dancer’s Closet in Littleton or Boulder Bodywear in Lafayette. If you prefer to shop online, we suggest Discount Dance Supply.

  • When it’s time for show information to go home, you will see it in the weekly newsletter, Band, and Parent Portal News & Announcements. However, here’s some general information that never changes.
    • There is a production fee for show. The non-refundable production dues collected in advance give us working capital to produce this show, including but not limited to the venue rental, EDC staff, venue custodial staff, light, sound and stage management professionals, videography, program printing and more.
    • Costumes- at Christmas, we keep it simple and the production fee includes the costume. For Spring Show, we go to town on the costumes. A separate costume will need to be purchased for each class your dancer will perform with.
    • Tickets are not included in the production dues and must be purchased to attend. (Performers are free.)
    • There will be OPTIONAL products and services offered to you for Spring Show at an additional cost such as professional photos, video, flowers and cake pops for your dancer, etc.
    • Dance shoes are not included. Dance shoes must follow our dress code (color, style) if the dancer wants to perform with us.

Because you’re a VIP, you are automatically enrolled in the next session to guarantee a spot in class before we open any remaining openings to the public.

Here’s how it works.
