You have SO MANY studios to choose from. Most of them are going to keep your child safe and teach great dance, and we’ll do that too. What makes EDC the best is our culture, so we protect it fiercely. If you can’t buy in, then keep looking for the studio where your family can thrive. But if this feels like your kind of place, then prepare to be delighted.
How to Feel Belonging in the EDC Dancefam
- Be courteous.
Say hello (especially to the front desk gal when you walk in). Smile. Use your “please” and “thank you.” Hold the door. If you make a mess or create a spill, clean up. Wear deodorant to class. Include people. It’s the little things!
- Be patient.
Our biggest flaw? Our crowded hallway during class changes. Reduce friction by coming inside, helping your dancer, putting things in the same place each time if you can, not plopping down in the center, not making your stuff look like a bomb went off, labeling everything, following directions, and being kind. A little patience and cooperation during those busy moments goes a long way to helping everyone get where they’re going quickly.
- Be informed.
It’s our job to give you the information you need to feel successful. It’s your job to read it. Yes, your inbox runneth over. Yes, work is busy and your family calendar is chaos. Ours too, Bestie. Staying informed is part of the deal, and it will make everyone’s experience better. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We’re here to help!
- Play by the rules.
It’s hard to hear, but you are not the exception. Dress code, hairstyles, required shoes, show day procedures, studio registration policies, hallway expectations, no street shoes on the dance floors, etc. We didn’t open the studio because we dreamed of telling you “no,” so please don’t make us play bad cop. =(
- Don’t be fragile.
Dance lessons are life lessons. We don’t cry about corrections, we say “thank you,” and apply them. We trust our teachers’ level placements even when we want to move up. We don’t give up when something doesn’t go exactly as we hoped. Resilience is a superpower! Let’s have all the hard conversations, lovingly. Breakthroughs come after the hard stuff, so stick it out and see what’s possible.
- Assume the best.
You can trust that we care deeply. We listen closely, and then thoughtfully consider every detail of our operation because it’s meant to be remarkable for the whole family. We’re here to change lives!
- Have a sense of humor.
If anything here made you chuckle, you’re going to fit right in. If you’re offended… our emails could be a wild ride. Picture us cry-laughing as we try to lighten up the tough love we throw down, and if needed- revisit #6. Welcome to
